Intensive Therapy Session

Intensive Therapy Session Questions

What is an Intensive?

The Intensive Model of Therapy (IMOT) is an individualized program designed to support the therapy needs of children as young as 3 months. IMOT has demonstrated that with increased time, attention and the use of advanced
equipment and techniques, the achievements of a child are significantly greater than with traditional therapy.

How long is an intensive?

Our Intensives are designed to fit the needs of your child. Typically, they are 3 weeks long, 5 days a week, 4 hours a day. When designing your child’s Intensive we take into consideration the age and diagnosis of your child, your circumstances and from there determine the right times and length of the Intensive. For children under 2 years old we suggest a 2 hour per day session, unless the therapist determines it should be longer.

How do I know if my child needs an Intensive

After you fill out your initial intake forms, or come in for an initial consultation, we partner with you and your child’s physician and other providers to gather as much information as we can about your child. From there our therapists will make recommendations regarding your child’s Intensive.

What can I expect from an Intensive?

Each Intensive is individualized for each child; however, there are some logistics and guidelines applicable to everyone.

Plan on staying with your child for the first 1-2 hours while your therapist conducts an in-depth evaluation. After that you are welcome to stay and observe your child, hang out in our cozy family room, or leave and return when your child’s daily visit is complete.

Expect your child to be tired during and after each visit. Crying or protesting is normal at first. The therapy may be new to them and they are working hard while they are here. Usually, as they get used to the therapy the protesting will diminish. Allow for some fun and down time between daily visits and get as much rest as possible.

Your schedule may change. Your child or your therapist may need to be out of the clinic for a variety of reasons. We will do all we can to accommodate any changes. Our morning sessions are held between 8-12:00 and the afternoon sessions from 1-5:00. Our clinic hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, closing for lunch and charting between 12-1:00 pm.

During our 4-hour Intensive most children will be fitted for a NeuroSuit that will be used daily in their treatment. Those children in the modified 2-hour Intensives will not incorporate the NeuroSuit (due to the time required to put on/take off the suit).

All Intensives will also include use of the spider cage (universal gym) and a 15- to 30-minute functional break in the stander for snacks and rest, based on a 2- or 4-hour Intensive.

We utilize a variety of therapies that include but are not limited to Neuro-Developmental Techniques (NDT) and Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI), a relatively new therapy that increases range of motion, strength and function.

Most of all, expect to be amazed at the improvements, progress, and positive changes your child will make.

How do I sign up for an Intensive?

Complete and send or upload an Initial Intake form, and we will research your insurance and contact you to start the scheduling process. It will save time if you contact your insurance company first to find out your child’s benefits and insurance requirements. You can also call our clinic to schedule your Intensive. You will still need to fill out your
online intake form so we can research your insurance.
